I don't even have an available USB port to plug in a mouse on my laptop once the Oculus sensors are connected! So Im fumbling around with my trackpad, the cut scenes are slapped in your face, like frozen 2D planes. You have an avatar, which is nice for casting shadows your feet float just above the ground when you walkaround and you can glitch out of your own head. I dunno. I hate to be a hater, but when you look at other indie VR horror games out there, like Kobold or Exorcist this doesnt hold up. I get that this was done a while ago, butI hope the devs come back top it to do a proper VR port. Thumbs up only because I love horror and support indie devs.. Played this game on my HTC Vive and I about died 5/5. I had a blast playing ARAYA, The game really exceeded my expectations. The story really had depth and a sense of mystery and it kept my hooked into finding out what happens next. This game had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, And the chase scenes really had my heart beating and the jumpscares were well done. This game has a really creepy atmosphere to it. Now for the graphics, they are okay for an indie game but there were a few bugs and glitches, like for example when I get close next to a bed there's nothing there but when I look in a specific direction the chair appears and disappears, and the character animation on the three characters was a bit dull. Anyway I enjoyed ARAYA, and I think anyone who loves Horror games should give it a go. It's not the best Indie horror game but it's worth checking out.. The first and the middle part was amazing but the last part was very diappointed and facing a ton of bugs. I would recommend this game because of the environment and The thai culture relate to the ghost story were very rich in this game. So, 5 hours deep and I've finally solved the mystery that is Araya...or have I?Let me begin by saying that this game has flaws and is not perfect by any means (much like this review), but let's focus on what the game gets right - atmosphere. The hospital corridors are dark and ceepy, and you never know what awaits you at the next turn. Or above you, or even behind you. I found myself constantly checking my 6 o'clock and doing quick 180 turns to ensure I'm not being followed. Some may call this paranoia, but it's better to be safe than sorry. The ability to play three different characters adds much needed layer to the game's narrative. Not unlike the horror movie anthologies of yesteryear, each character unveils plot points that not only serves the individual's story, but also adds weight to the Araya universe. These interlinking narratives help build (or create the illusion) that the game has a grander and bigger non-linear universe than what is being presented. Now, the cons. This otherwise above average horror game is marred by clunky mechanics, bad audio mixing, abrupt cutscenes and bad optimization. I find myself inching closer to complete deafness as the orchestral sting pierces my eardrums everytime my character picks up a note. To call the sound effects REALLY REALLY LOUD would be an understatement. The cutscenes end just as abruptly as it starts and this is often followed by long heart thumping moments of just utter blackness on screen. Did my PC crash? Is there a power trip? Is this game ACTUALLY cursed? The answer is worse than all three options combined - it's really long loading screens. These jarring black screens really impairs immersion, especially for us mere mortals without a VR kit. Despite its' flaws, Araya is worth the purchase and it'll tide you through till the next non-jumpscare horror game. No review is complete without the now mandatory youtube channel plug/playthrough link, so here's mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IC4cJRfYTQEP.S. at the time of this review, I've only gotten one single achievement despite completing the game. What is up with that, devs?. Rubbish! Some parts are in Thai for example the signs on the wall as are some of the voiceovers. Can't play with a gamepad. Graphics are ok but for this day and age pretty dismal for a modern computer! Gave up after 30 mins!. I've had enough already, the door opening mechanism is buggy as that place that never freezes over.I went back to the game and it had not saved my progress, it was only like 20 minutes but it was so tedious the 1st time, I really don't feel like doing it again. And the 1st time I played it I couldn't progress because one of the doors wouldn't open at all (electrical room).Fix the game so that it's not a complete pain in the neck to play and I'll change this review.Avoid, not very scary, gameplay is tedious.
